Glass shape can have a profound effect on the taste of wine, although it has not been scientifically demonstrated. It is believed by that the shape of wine glasses concentrate aroma (or bouquet) and flavour to emphasize the characteristic of the variety.
Most wine glasses have stems, although “stemless” wine glasses are now available in a variety of sizes and shapes as well. These glasses tend to be used more casually, as they negate some of the benefits stemmed wine glasses such as temperature control.
Most common wine glasses can be divided into three types: red wine glasses, white wine glasses and champagne flutes. Wine tumblers (without stems) are also increasing in popularity.
